If your looking for a starter metal detector for a child then the Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector is hard to beat. This detector is bare bones, super easy to use, lightweight and intuitive. It is also light on the pocket book if the hobby becomes just a child’s passing fancy.

To be honest, the Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector is basically a child’s toy with some basic metal detecting ability. But, it is a great way to introduce your child to the hobby. Armed with only two dials and a analog meter that will give the unit creditability in a child’s eyes, the Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector could not be easier for a child to use.

The dial to the left on the control box is for turning on the unit and increasing the detection alert tone volume while the dial to the right acts as a simple discriminator to tune out ferrous metals. It is recommended to keep the discriminator off for kids just starting out because the more they find the more the will enjoy metal detecting.
